Excited about Jesus

Rupp ArenaI know with the ever approaching NCAA tournament there is bound to be a lot of excitement in the sporting world (I know there will not be enough excitement to make us miss church over a silly game, but we can still get excited about sports; just keep it in its proper perspective). This morning we will be looking at what excitement about Jesus would look like. In the American Heritage Dictionary there are several definitions for the word “excite” but there were two that really caught my attention. The first one comes from the world of Physiology -To produce increased activity or response in (an organ, tissue, or part); stimulate.  We will see from the sermon this morning that our bodies certainly are called to an increased activity or response when it comes to our relationship with Jesus.  The other definition comes from the world of Physics- To increase the energy of; to raise (an atom, for example) to a higher energy level. This one is equally true for the church and her members. With excitement comes an increase of our energy for the church and for our Master. However, as we grow older we tend to lose energy (the world of physics applies the 2nd Law of Thermodynamics to this energy loss stating that all things tend toward entropy or disorder; to say it in KY English we are all breaking down or getting worse over time, not better). This should not be the case for the growing Christian. We should be ever increasing our level of excitement and productivity for the Lord and His church. We have learned in my Wednesday night class that backsliding can happen from those who are in the pews week in and week out and yet they are not growing.  In fact I would say that is where backsliding actually begins. It is a simple act of spiritual retardation (retarded simply means lack of growth). The remedy is an increase in our level of excitement about who Jesus is and what Jesus has done on our behalf and how He might do that in the lives of others! Can it be that simple? Only you can decide!

Enjoy the excitement of the NCAA (GO CATS), but please take more joy in your relationship with the MASTER!

because He still lives,Jason
