Going for The GOLD
What does it mean to "go for the gold?" If you asked an athlete you would probably get an answer much like; "trying to get first prize in an event. Right now across the world, athletes are training for the next summer Olympics, trying their best in their respect event. Many of the these athletes have trained their whole life for their two minutes on the world's stage, trying to get the first place medal, the GOLD.
If you ask a financial expert what does going for the gold mean, he or she might tell you that it means to get the highest value out of money. Gold is an extremely precious metal and it's monetary worth is crucial to the world's finances. If the value of gold drops, then so does the money markets across the globe, pushing all governments into financial crisis, hurting everyone including the normal comsumer.
Through this country, and the world for that matter, parents are encouraging their children to get involved in two activities, sports and the work force. Why? Parents everywhere want their children to be successful on the sports fields. Every parent hopes that their children get a taste of the chamionship, regardless the sport. It is no fun to loose or to be on a loosing team, henceforth children are forced to put more effort in sports than ever before, even pushing aside education and social experiences. Parents are also urging their children into the work force eariler because earning money is a necessity for the "good life." What kind of job and what a person can purchase with the wages of that job has become a social status and parents want their children to be successful in their eyes of their peers.
Have we not missed the point of "Going for the Gold"? The Apostle Peter stated in his book (1 Peter 1:7-9); "...your faith - of greater worth than gold....- may be proven genuine and may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed. Though you have not seen Him; and even though you do not see Him now, you believe in Him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy, for you are recieving the goal of your faith, the salvation of your souls."
The Apostle Peter stresses the importance of going for The GOD not the GOLD. What would this world be like if more emphasis was placed on seeking God more than just an earthly trophy or worldly money? I urge all children and parents to spend their efforts "Going for The GOD" and let world go for the gold!
When the time of life is up, would you rather stand on a podium with a gold medal around your neck or would you reather spend an eternity walking around on golden streets?
